We don't keep your document or the quotes in it. We keep only a record of which citations were checked.

Works best on briefs, motions, and opinions that argue from case law — a complaint or answer usually has no case citations to check.

What you get

  • Every citation checked against the record. Not only whether the citation number exists, but whether it leads to the case named — a real address can belong to a different case.
  • Corrections, not just flags. When a citation is close but wrong — the right case at the wrong reporter or page — the correct citation is offered.
  • A report for the file. A dated Verification Report with its own report id, returned to you as a page you can copy or print; neither your filing nor the report is retained by Cite11.
  • Quotations and dockets checked. A quotation next to a citation is compared with the opinion text, and a case cited only by docket number is checked on its docket. Nothing in the report is written by AI: the Summary is generated from the results by fixed rules.

Why quotes matter

In the 30 sanctions orders we tested, 16 of 64 named fake citations weren’t invented cases — they were real cases with an invented quote attached. More on how we check quotes →

  1. We find quotations attached to your citations.

  2. We compare each one, word for word, with the opinion itself.

  3. If the words aren’t there, we tell you. If we can’t check one, we say so and why.

How it works

  1. Upload the filing

    A PDF or plain-text brief, up to 10MB. It is read once for its citations and not kept.

  2. Each citation is checked against the record

    Name, address, and court and year — every case citation, against the public case-law record — and the quotation attributed to it. Anything that could not be checked is listed as not checked, with the reason, never guessed at.

  3. You get a Verification Report

    Dated, with its own report id: each citation verified, case confirmed, belonging to a different case, not confirmed or not found, and a plain statement of what was and was not checked. Copy or print it for your records — it is not stored by Cite11 after the check completes.
